We and US
This new historical book is available from the Society, titled We and Us, contains 212 pages and is printed on 8.5 by 11 paper with a beautiful cover and perfect binding. It has pictures, country-type stories, and covers two hundred years of people and their activities in the county. The book has 97 separate articles written by many different authors and is an anthology of people and events, of teams and of individuals. It is meant to be read now and two hundred years from now. It is a record of real names and events coming from famiy lore perhaps even hear-say; but it could be considered contemporary at any time, because human nature and storytelling behavior does not change much. Seven hundred copies were printed and those will be sold for $15 per copy for one to three copies ; four or more copies will be sold for $13 each. Contact the Society office if you woild like to purchase copies. Postage and tax will involve additional costs.
Greene County History Book
The Greene County Family History book was printed and delivered in September 2016.
Additional books are available at the Society office so contact the office if you would like to purchase a copy. Price is $65 plus sales tax and shipping, if applicable. It is an excellent and
attractive history book with over 500 stories on families, businesses, and organizations in the county. The book publisher, Acclaim Press, recently recognized the Greene County History being the best book developed by their company in 2016 based on its aesthetic appeal, literary content, and commercial success. Get your copy before they are all sold!
Veteran’s Service Information
The Society is collecting veteran’s service information for use in genealogical research. Greene Country Pioneer Certificate
The Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society is offering a Greene County Pioneer Certificate to honor the memory of the earliest residents of the county. Anyone may apply and applicants need not be residents of Greene County. Applicants must provide proof of descent from a Greene County ancestor whose who was residing within the county by 1830. A copy of the 1830 Federal Census of Greene County is available at the Society office to serve as a reference for early pioneers or other proof of residence by 1830 can be submitted.
Criteria for the certificate include:
(1) Membership in the Greene County Historical Society or include membership dues with certificate application.
(2) Completion of the Pioneer Certificate Program Application.
(3) Copies of documented proof of direct descent for each generation to an 1830 resident.
(See 1830 Greene County Census for a list of county residents as of that date.)
(4) $20.00 certificate fee
For each qualifying ancestor, a beautifully designed 8 ½ by 11 inch certificate suitable for framing, numbered and signed will be issued. We hope this certification will be a source of pride for your family.

All applications with proof of direct descent documentation will be filed in the archives of the Society to help preserve the history of your ancestor and will be make available for public research.
The mission of the Society shall be to research, collect, care for, exhibit, and interpret items that illustrate the history of Greene County from settlement to the present time, and place it in the context of the history of the State of Illinois.
